If you are tired of getting no one on the phone at the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency office, good news, they are now open for in person appointments.

When COVID-19 first hit and many Michiganders had to seek out unemployment benefits, there were nightmare stories about people calling for hours for weeks on end to never get a human on the phone. As a result, many people in West Michigan were unable to get the benefits they earned or had to wait an extremely long time to get the benefits they have earned.

According to WOOD, for the first time in roughly 15 months, the MUIA has reopened 12 of its offices across Michigan as of Wednesday for in person appointments. Up until every thing has been handled either online or by phone and neither were an easy process.

Unfortunately at this time, even though the unemployment offices are open, they like the Secretary of State offices, and require you schedule an appointment online a head of time. I hope it is easier than getting an appointment with the Secretary of State, it took me two months to finally get a face to face. Here is a link to schedule your appointment with the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency.

The hours that are available for appointments are 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. You must have a proof of identification or security will not let you in the building so bring your I.D. and any documents you may need for your appointment. Arrive 5 minutes early and you are required to wear a mask to enter the building.

Here is a list of unemployment offices in the region that are open:

  • Grand Rapids - 3391-A-Plainfield Ave., NE
  • Kalamazoo - 1600 South Burdick St.
  • Muskegon - 2700 Baker St.
