Founder of A Grand Rapids Classic, Mr. Burger, Has Died

Peter Christopoulos opened the first Mr. Burger restaurant in 1967, and it has become a staple for Grand Rapids families. Christopoulos has passed away at the age of 90.

Mr. Burger has expanded to 8 locations in the Grand Rapids area and is one of the last mom-and-pop restaurant chains still thriving in Michigan.

Mr. Burger History

Peter and his wife, Maria Christopoulos, had the idea to open up a restaurant. What started as a Dog 'N Suds restaurant was converted to Mr. Burger in 1967, and 58 years later, it has expanded to 8 locations serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the Grand Rapids region.

The couple's goal was to provide quality food and customer service in a pleasant atmosphere at a fair price, and it's a goal they achieved together. The couple employs around 200 workers who always serve their customers with a smile.

Mr. Burger is a family-run business with a strong work ethic and faith in God, which has extended to a family relationship with its customers, thanks to the Christopoulos'.

Founder Of Mr. Burger Dies At Age 90

According to WZZM 13, Peter D. Christopoulos, founder of the local Mr. Burger chain, passed away peacefully on Saturday. During a previous interview in 2017, WZZM 13 had with Peter, who originally migrated from Greece, he said, "I was reading about America, how good it is, land of opportunity. And the future was not too good (in Greece), so I came here to get started.

Since 2023, Peter and his wife Maria's two sons have been running the Mr. Burger chain, continuing to provide quality food and excellent customer service in a pleasant atmosphere at a fair price.
