Two Michigan Resorts Competing for Best Wine Hotel in Nation
You don’t have to fly to Napa to experience top-tier wine country hospitality. In fact, two luxurious Michigan inns are being honored as some of the very best wine country hotels in the nation!

Two Michigan Hotels Competing for Best Wine Country Hotel in U.S.
USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards have opened voting for the 2025 list of top wine country hotels in the nation. A panel of experts selected 20 standout resorts known for pairing great hospitality with exceptional vineyard views and wine experiences. Now, the public gets to decide who makes the final Top 10.
The two Michigan resorts competing are:
- Chateau Chantal in Traverse City
- The Inn at Black Star Farms in Suttons Bay
Last year, Chateau Chantal came in at No. 1 and The Inn at Black Star Farms at No. 3! Let's aim for Michigan to claim both top spots in 2025!

I feel lucky to say I've visited both hotels and they are some of my favorite spots Up North!
Chateau Chantal, Traverse City
If you’ve ever dreamed of sipping wine with a view that makes you forget you're in the Midwest, this is the place. Chateau Chantal sits high on a ridge on Old Mission Peninsula, with jaw-dropping views of both East and West Grand Traverse Bays.

This place is more than just a winery. It’s a full-on experience. There’s a vineyard, tasting room, and a beautiful inn where every room feels like a retreat. Think whirlpool tubs, fireplaces, and private balconies. Even if you're not staying the night, just grabbing a glass of wine on their patio is a perfect Northern Michigan moment.
Side note: I love a wine slush, and Chateau Chantal's are superb!
The Inn at Black Star Farms, Suttons Bay
Black Star Farms has been on my travel list forever — and when I finally made it there, it totally lived up to the hype.
Nestled in the Leelanau Peninsula, this place is part working farm, part winery, and part luxury getaway.
You can even do yoga with goats!
The inn is cozy and elegant, with plenty of extras to make your stay feel special. Guests get a gourmet breakfast, nightly wine and bites, and access to a private barrel room tasting. The grounds are beautiful — stables, trails, and a great on-site restaurant, Bistro Polaris, just a short stroll away. Whether you're booking a romantic weekend or just popping in for a tasting, it's a must-stop spot on any Michigan wine tour.

In a separate contest, Black Star Farm is also competing for best winery restaurant.
Michigan’s Wine Scene is Gaining Ground
Michigan’s wine scene continues to grow in reputation — especially in the Traverse City area, where glacial soil and lake-cooled breezes help produce award-winning Rieslings, Chardonnays, and Pinot Noirs. With views that rival California and experiences that feel tailor-made for a weekend away, it’s no wonder these two resorts are back in the national spotlight.
Voting runs through July 21 at noon. You can help support Michigan wine country by casting your vote here!
