Michigan Subway Sandwich Shops Are in Danger of Closing for Good
If you are a fan of Subway sandwiches or have a favorite location you like to frequent there is a chance that it may go away soon.
Subway
I personally have been a long-time fan of Subway sandwiches.
Most of my jobs have always had one nearby which is always convenient and in the line of work I am in, it's nice to get a great sandwich in a pinch with the weird hours I keep.
There used to be a Subway in downtown Grand Rapids across from Rosa Parks Circle I used to frequent but when COVID-19 hit, that was one of the downtown businesses that didn't make it.
I did find a new location right off of US 131 that is on M46 on my way to work which has become my new Subway but I learned that could possibly change and so could the existence of your favorite Subway.
Subway Closings
Subway closed more than 500 US stores in 2022. Over 1000 stores shut down in 2021 and in 2020 just over 1600 shut their doors. Many thought that to be COVID casualties and for some that may have been the case.
Your Subway Location Could Be Closing in Michigan
The main reason Subway had been closing locations was due to a 10 billion dollar sale of the company. Sales of this magnitude do not happen overnight and sometimes getting the company healthier financially has to occur to make the sale and it did.
According to ABC News, in August of 2023, Subway was purchased by the company that owns Jimmy John's by the name of Roark Capital. This purchase was years in the making but many of the Subway locations were locally owned franchises and several of them have been selling off their locations that may or may not stay open as a Subway. So there is a chance your favorite Subway location could go away permanently here in Michigan.
