I’ll be honest. Before last year, I didn’t realize Michigan had this deep of a sauna scene. But once you start looking, it makes sense!

Cold winters. Lake plunges. Finnish roots. A long tradition of warming up, cooling down, and doing it all over again. Michigan has been doing versions of this for generations! And now in its second year, Michigan Sauna Fest aims to celebrate that.

Michigan Sauna Fest Returns in 2026

Michigan Sauna Fest runs April 10 through April 12 at Clinch Park in Traverse City, right along West Bay. For one weekend, the marina fills with mobile saunas, cold plunge setups, fire pits, and people willingly bouncing between extreme temperatures.

Some people show up because they swear by the health benefits. Others come for the novelty of jumping into icy water after sitting in a hot wooden box. Plenty are just there to hang out, warm up, and say they tried it.

What's New This Year

Last year’s festival pulled together sauna operators from across Michigan. Organizers say this year should be even bigger, with more than 10 mobile saunas, plus a central event tent hosting music, movement, meditation, and other low key programming throughout the weekend.

Ticket Options and Pricing

There are two ways to join the sauna sessions at Michigan Sauna Fest. A VIP Weekend Pass costs $90 and gives full access to all three days, including Friday night’s VIP-only opening event and any open community sauna sessions on Saturday and Sunday.

Single Session Passes cost $35 and cover one 90-minute sauna block on Saturday or Sunday, giving access to all mobile saunas during that time. VIP tickets go on sale January 23, and single session tickets go on sale about a month before the event.

If you are curious but not ready to commit to sweating for hours, there is also a social area near Clinch Park Beach and Pavilion that is free and open to the public. Expect games, music, fire pits, and food and non-alcoholic drinks you can buy.
