Can you imagine not having candy or tabloids in the check out line anymore?  If a one Michigan mom gets her way, Meijer will have to make some adjustments.

Jane Kramer lives in Bath Township, in September, she started a petition on Change.org to have Meijer remove candy and gossip magazines from the checkout lines and replace the “junk” food with healthier options.

She has chosen Meijer, because it's the store she shops at the most. She says she loves the convenience of how close the store is to her house, but after becoming a mom, realized how unhealthy the checkout lanes were.

"I started noticing the product in checkout as a new parent," Kramer, 47, told ABC News. "Before that, I didn't really pay attention to it. After we adopted, the grocery shopping experience just changed."

"Our only options were junk and I wanted to be able to buy a banana or carrots," she added. "In addition to that, were all the horrible titles on the magazine covers and once [my son] learned how to read, he started asking me about that."

So far her petition has only 400 signatures on it and Meijer has yet to comment to her or ABC New regarding her request.  She says that just wants Meijer to “stand by their values” which according to their website states:

Safety & health: Meijer provides a safe and healthy environment for our team members. We create a safe shopping experience for our customers and offer products and services to help our customers lead healthier lives.

Aldi stores recently implemented “Healthier Checklanes” and Jane is just hoping Meijer will adopt this idea, according to her petition on Change.org.

What do you think, should stores give healthier options at check out?  Do you support Jane's idea/request?
