Michigan Man Starting His Own Car Company Inside An Abandoned Car Factory
Sometimes we find ourselves frustrated with the change we want to see in our own neighborhoods not happening. You know what needs to be done, but you feel powerless to do any good.
Detroit was once a booming city when it came to factories, specifically auto manufacturers. But over the past few decades, factories closed, doors shuttered, and a lot of these once important buildings have been left to decay and rot, with nothing operating inside of them for years.
And that's why one Michigan man named Andy took it upon himself to take it into his own hands and reopen a once abandoned car factory.
@thatdetroitandy We had so many shirt orders come in our little “assembly line” was totally overrun. All remaining orders go out this week! #carfactory ♬ Red Line - Geordie Kieffer
He goes by @DetroitAndy on TikTok, and originally he bought the abandoned car factory to run his local business from, but over time he's started to realize he can turn it back into what it once was: a functioning American car company.
Andy has already started his hiring process according to a video recently posted to TikTok.
In the video, he says he knows that several car companies in Detroit recently laid off thousands of employees, and while he cannot afford to hire them all, he's already hired two laid off engineers from Ford to help him design a car.
He also goes on to explain that while they don't have a car fully designed yet, they have started with a blueprint of sorts, and they have a battle plan in place to continue to design, then eventually manufacture the car in Detroit.
@thatdetroitandy Lots of hiring already done. Lots to go. You’re watching history in the making. @thatdetroitandy @thatdetroitandy ♬ Blade Runner 2049 - Synthwave Goose
Will this be the next American car company? Could this eventually be the saving hope Detroit needs to get jobs and a jump back to life? It's too early to tell, but it's exciting to watch. You can follow @DetroitAndy on TikTok for more updates.
