My son's older brother's best friend Bill is a local fireman in West Michigan, and he recently told me about how serious the job is, but at the same time, they do like to have a little fun at the fire station.

Firefighters have an extreme job. Sure, not every call is a blazing chemical fire, but even if it's getting a cat out of a tree, there is always a risk once that fire truck pulls out of the station.

The dangers of being a firefighter include physical injuries (burns, falls, strains), heat-related illnesses (exhaustion, dehydration), and chronic health issues like various cancers (mesothelioma, leukemia), respiratory diseases (asthma, lung damage), and cardiovascular disease, all are linked to prolonged exposure to toxic chemicals, smoke, and extreme physical exertion.
