Mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, fries, tots—we were piling 'em all with bacon, cheese, and sour cream. Maybe it just seems like that to me because I worked at Ruby Tuesday at the time, and those loaded up spuds were super popular... Loaded Baked Potato and Salad Bar Combo, anyone?

Anyway, we're still obsessed with stacking up our dishes with toppings, and since then, it's become more than just bacon and cheese—and more than just potatoes!

In fact, Lovefood.com's pick for the best loaded fries in Michigan aren't fries at all...

They're Loaded Plantains at Frita Batidos!

You'll find the Cuban-inspired restaurant in Ann Arbor and Detroit. Lovefood notes that while Frita Batidos does serve loaded shoe string fries, it's the loaded plantains that really get people talking. The plantains are twice baked and then loaded with cheese, black beans, avocado, salsa, and crema. They also do fun specials as well, pictured on right is the Snack Attack: crispy plantains topped with pulled pork, Muenster, jalepenos, and served with avocado spread, salsa, and crema.

This is not the first time Fritas is getting national recognition. Lovefood also praises the eatery for serving the best fast food burger in the state.

It's the Beef Frita, which features a beef patty topped with shoestring fries and sweet chili mayo on a soft egg bun. You can load it up with cheese, bacon, egg, salsa, tropical slaw, jalapeños, and avocado spread.

Other burger options include chorizo, black bean, chicken, or fish. On the menu you'll also find salads, bowls, and desserts, like "batidos", which are Cuban milkshakes.
