West Michigan Farm Store Crowned Best in the State
Fresh produce, knowing exactly where your food comes from, and supporting a local business—there’s a lot to love about farm stores! And in a state as agriculturally rich as Michigan, you’ll find them scattered everywhere, from seasonal roadside stands to year-round farm markets.

One of my personal favorites is right in my hometown of South Haven: Barden’s Farm Market. It sits on the main drag as you roll into town and is a must-stop for fresh veggies, pies, jams, donuts, and all kinds of local goodies.

Now, another West Michigan farm store is getting some well-deserved national attention. Lovefood.com has named Green Vale Farm Creamery in Coopersville the best farm store in the entire state.
Green Vale Farm has deep roots in the community, with a history that stretches back more than a century. It started as a hobby farm in the 1920s before growing into a well-known dairy operation. In 2022, Heidi Hendrickson purchased the farm and has since transformed it into a thriving farm-to-table destination.
Inside the store, you’ll find a wide variety of meats, including ground beef, T-bone steaks, sausage, pork chops, Delmonico steaks, burger patties, chicken breasts, bacon, stew meat, brats, and more. All of the meat is harvested and processed at a local USDA-inspected facility.
That same attention to quality carries over to the farm’s handcrafted cheese and curds, which are made in a licensed plant right on the property. The cows are milked in the morning, the cheese is made from that milk the very same day, and it’s hand-packaged the following day before heading to the shelves.
You’ll even find a natural skincare line made with tallow!
Here’s some of what Lovefood had to say about Green Vale Farm:
Everything bought from the shop at Green Vale Farm gets great reviews. Beef, sausages, ribs, pork chops, lamb roasts, chicken, honey, and eggs are just a few of the things on offer. Don't miss the handcrafted cheeses (garlic dill is a customer favorite) and curds, either. Owner Heidi is happy for customers to explore the farm and meet the animals, too.
