A Michigan Mother Does the Unthinkable
I don't know how a parent can take their child's life. My mind just can't process it because as parents we are supposed to love, protect, and take care of our children.
Her name is Justine M. Johnson and she is 23 years old. Johnson was the mother of a beautiful and innocent 3-year-old daughter by the name of Sutton M. Mosser who had just turned 3 two days before her death that occurred in Tawas City, Michigan. on September 16, 2021.
What Led to Sutton's Death?
Johnson had a long history of mental health issues going back to when she was 13 years old. Johnson was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety, and depression.
That is a lot of disorders that require a lot of medication but Johnson stopped all medications about a year before the murder. Johnson had resorted to regular use of heroin and meth which is a toxic recipe for someone with mental health issues.
She Said SpongeBob Made Me Do It
SpongeBob SquarePants is a cartoon that has been on TV for many years. According to ABC 12, Johnson said she was watching SpongeBob on TV and was experiencing hallucinations and that the character told her to kill her daughter or face death herself.
Johnson claims she was afraid for her life and hallucinating but doesn't remember stabbing her daughter 17 times. Johnson's prints were the only ones found at the scene.
Johnson has been sentenced to life without parole for her murder conviction.
