Remember Metallica’s 2009 Grand Rapids Concert? Lars Ulrich’s Spit Moment Caught
A lot of crazy things can happen at concerts. You’ve got the energy of the crowd, the party atmosphere, the deafening music, and the band’s unpredictable antics—not to mention the booze and whatever else might be fueling the chaos.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve ever seen at a show? I didn’t personally attend this one, but it’s gotta rank pretty high on the “wow” scale.

Grand Rapids photographer Two Eagles Marcus recently shared a photograph he took at a Metallica concert back in the day. The show was at Van Andel Arena on Nov. 9, 2009.
So, what’s so special about this photo? Lars Ulrich, Metallica’s drummer, is captured mid-action… spitting a stream of water from his mouth straight into the crowd. And at least one fan—mouth wide open—was more than ready to catch it.
Two Eagles Marcus thinks the fan might want a print. He wrote:
“16 years ago today I captured this image at Van Andel Arena of Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich launching a water stream from his lips into a fan’s eagerly awaiting open mouth. If you can identify this person, I can imagine they would love to have a print. Tag a Metallica fan with the message… Is this you? LOL”
So help spread the word! Did Lars Ulrich spit in your mouth at a 2009 Grand Rapids concert? There’s a picture you absolutely have to see!
