Men Take Late Night Boat Ride on Michigan River, One Man Is Now Missing
Two men take a late-night boat ride on a Michigan river and now police, family members, and dozens of fishermen are helping search for one of them.
Ice Fishing Rescues
There have been countless people falling through thin ice for the 2022/23 ice fishing season.
From farm ponds to the Great Lakes, there have been a high number of ice fishing-related rescues in Michigan. It's not just Michigan either, it's Ohio, Illinois, and Wisconsin as well. From guys fishing on thin ice to ice breaking off and floating off into the Great Lakes.
River ice fishing is the most dangerous type of ice fishing. Even in the coldest of winters you still have goes going through the Saginaw River because of the high rate of current.
I have been driving a couple of hours north of Grand Rapids to icefish this year in order to find safe ice. On my drive, I cross the Muskegon River in an area that is normally frozen this time of the year. One week I drive by and there were people fishing from shore because there was no ice. The next week there is a guy in the middle of the river standing on maybe 2 inches of ice and told my son that guy is crazy.
Searching for Missing Man In Tittabawassee River
Most rivers do not have ice this year which means more boats have been out on the rivers for fishing and pleasure cruises.
According to MLive, two men went for a late-night boat ride around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, February 12 to meet up with their girlfriends who were at a local bar that is on the Tittabawassee River in Saginaw Township.
The boat had an engine issue and while trying to restart the boat Nathan James Robbins got his sweater caught in the motor. In trying to release him the boat wound up capsizing and the two men went into the Tittabawassee River. One man swam to shore while Robbins got caught up in the river's current.
Michigan State Police dive crews, family members, and anglers are still searching for the missing Robbins.
