Megadeth have been utilizing the services of Soilwork drummer Dirk Verbeuren on tour of late and it looks as though that will continue as frontman Dave Mustaine revealed during a news conference in Tel Aviv that Chris Adler, who drummed on the band's Dystopia album, is no longer with the group.

During the press conference, journalist Ron Ben-Tovim of Machine Music asked Mustaine about welcoming guitarist Kiko Loureiro and drummer Chris Adler into the band. During his response, he clarified Adler's current status with the group. "If you’re in the presence of greatness, it’s shameful not to allow that to be great," started Mustaine. "But let me back up though: Chris Adler is not in Megadeth, he’s in Lamb of God. He was a session guy, he was what you could call work for hire. And he has nothing to do with us anymore, and he is with his band. I am very grateful for his contributions. I’m grateful for him introducing us to Dirk. We still haven't announced who our new drummer is going to be. It won’t be Chris Adler because he’s in Lamb of God."

Megadeth found themselves in need of a drummer after the exit of drummer Shawn Drover in 2014. The band did meet with former drummer Nick Menza, but ultimately decided to go a different direction and welcomed the Lamb of God drummer to take part in the recording of the Dystopia disc. Adler also joined the band where possible on tour in support of the album, and when there were conflicts with Lamb of God, the band utilized drum tech Tony Laureano to fill in behind the kit. Lamb of God do have an appearance at the 2016 GWAR-B-Q on the horizon in August, but it looks like it will be October before the band resumes extended touring.

In May, the group took Adler's suggestion of Verbeuren and had the drummer handling touring duties. "I can’t thank Chris Adler enough for his kindness," stated Verbeuren at the time. "It’s truly a huge honor to fill in for Chris in Megadeth, a band I grew up listening to. I’m so very grateful to Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson and Kiko Loureiro for their warm welcome."

Megadeth are currently on tour in Europe, and will end the month kicking off a trek in South America that rolls over into August. They also have a handful of dates in Mexico and an appearance at the Ozzfest Meets Knotfest weekend in San Bernardino in September. See all of their scheduled shows here.
