Marvel Television will soon be no more. The company announced that they will be phasing out their TV department, absorbing its remaining shows under Marvel Studios. According to Deadline, the TV division stated on Tuesday: “The decision has been made to complete Marvel TV projects that are currently in production, but not continue with any further development."

Fans of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. need not freak out — Season 7 is still on its way. Previously announced Hulu show Helstrom will also come out in 2020, along with the four promised Marvel animated series. But no other Marvel television shows will come to pass in the future. This announcement comes with news of the departure of Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb, after nearly ten years dedicated to adapting Marvel superheroes for the small screen.

This news isn't all too surprising, considering the recent cancellations of a slew of shows like Cloak & Dagger and Runaways, the latter of which has its last season premiering on Hulu on Friday, December 13. What was initially viewed as a chance to extend and enrich the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Marvel TV’s tagline was “It’s All Connected”) has now become an afterthought for the company. While Netflix shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage were mostly well received, they operated almost completely independently of the billion-dollar film franchise.

The show that started it all for the Marvel TV department, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, will have its seventh and final season on ABC next spring.
