Marilyn Manson Collapses Onstage at Houston Show
After visibly struggling to get through the fourth song in his set in Houston, Texas, last night, Marilyn Manson collapsed.
Manson had apparently been feeling ill before the show, part of his Twins of Evil, the Second Coming co-headlining tour with Rob Zombie. Before his show-opening set began, the photo pit was emptied, with management explaining that Manson didn't want to be photographed in his depleted condition.
Later in the evening, Zombie addressed the crowd ahead of his normal nightly duet with Manson on their recent cover of the Beatles' "Helter Skelter." "My dear friend Mr. Manson is feeling under the weather. He’s probably on the bus feeling like crap. I need a partner for the next song so let’s sing it really loud and make him feel better."
A review of the show by the Houston Press credited Manson with trying his best to perform despite his ailment. "When Manson finally came out to “Cruci-Fiction In Space” he absolutely gave it his all," it read. "He held on to the brass knuckled microphone attached to the stand, shouting his lungs out. There were very long breaks between songs with the stage blacked out.
"To borrow a line from his co-headliner, Manson proved he was more human than human by coming out and giving it literally everything his body could muster. He was mostly stationary and visibly shaking at times while he braced himself with the microphone stand. Upon finishing “Sweet Dreams” he collapsed on top of one of the monitors. Roadies could be seen on the side of the stage worriedly contemplating on whether or not to assist him."
You can see fan-shot video below of Manson performing the Eurythmics cover "Sweet Dreams," before falling to the stage floor.
The collapse is being attributed to food poisoning, according to the backstage scuttlebutt, though Manson himself mentioned "heat poisoning" before launching into "This Is the New Shit."
This is the second show Manson has canceled due to illness on this tour. Last month, he begged off a show in Toronto, Ontario, at the last minute.
8/20 UPDATE: Manson tweeted, "Thanks Houston for being understanding. I ended up in doctor’s care, but I gave it my best and you guys were amazing."
