Man Working On The Ambassador Bridge Falls 150 Feet and Survives
A man that was working on the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit fell 150 feet and some local citizens stepped up and got the man out of the water safely.
The Ambassador Bridge
When it comes to bridges in Michigan, the Mackinac Bridge is definitely the most well-known of all the state's bridges. There is another iconic bridge that has connected Detroit and Canada since 1930 which is the Ambassador Bridge.
The Ambassador Bridge has been connecting businesses from America and Canada for over 100 years. Tourists and people, who work on both sides of the bridge cross it every day, but has anyone ever died falling from the Ambassador Bridge?
Deaths and The Ambassador Bridge
The Ambassador Bridge has been around much longer than the Mackinac Bridge and has claimed more lives than the Mighty Mac.
The Ambassador was built in 3 years, and in the process, it claimed an estimated 60 workers' lives. Building a bridge is very dangerous work, especially if you add in working in freezing temperatures. There is not a lot of information regarding how workers died, but much like the building of the Mighty Mac, I'm sure many fell to their death in a variety of ways.
Since the Ambassador Bridge opened there have been more than 50 suicides by people jumping off the bridge. Most were Michiganders or visitors and very few were Canadian.
One odd death associated with the Ambassador Bridge was a man by the name of Blair Lyons was captured on video jumping off the bridge shortly after killing his wife which led to his death in 2022.

A man who was working on the Ambassador Bridge on July 12, 2023, fell off the bridge. The man fell from some scaffolding while working on the bridge but when rescued he told the people he didn't know how he fell.
According to WXYZ, a man from Detroit saw the worker fall and was near the boat mail office and notified them and they were able to get to the man quickly and were able to pull him from the Detroit River. Rescuers were surprised that the worker was still alive but they quickly got him to the shore and off to the hospital where the man is receiving treatment. There is no word on the extent of his injuries but he was able to talk to the rescuers.
