Machine Head are currently cooking up "some new heaviness" in the recording studio, if founding frontman Robb Flynn's Instagram story is any indication. Below, take a look at the musician teasing a selfie-styled glimpse at what's suggested to be a guitar-tracking session for the band's follow-up to their 2018 ninth album, Catharsis.

The candid update from the Machine Head camp would seem to quell speculation about the possibility of a new album following the lineup shakeup that spurred a "farewell tour" and culminated in the band becoming a two-piece. (Bassist Jared MacEachern remains in the group after the exits of drummer Dave McClain and guitarist Phil Demmel.)

"Where are we at? We're in the studio!" Flynn jovially announces in the clip, which was shared on Facebook via a Machine Head fan page. "Got the guitar, laying down some tracks, some new heaviness."

The veteran guitarist and vocalist doesn't offer any further clues as to the band's activity, nor does he fill in Machine Head fans on possible new band members. For now, it looks like that promise of "heaviness" is all we have to go on.

Last year, Flynn explained that the band's aforementioned 2018 run of "farewell" concerts were designed to signify "the farewell tour of this lineup; this era of Machine Head. This is not the farewell tour of Machine Head."
