Lowell Fire Department Welcomes a PAWSitive New Chief

The Lowell Fire Department has a new chief, and he's SUCH A GOOD BOY

On January 4th, the Lowell Fire Department announced that they added a new chief to their staff, only you may not see him putting out any fires. His name is Chief, and he's an 11 week old Golden Retriever.

According to their facebook page Little Chief is "currently in training with our crew, getting to know us and his way around the station. He is on day shift during the week and our goal is utilize him for Public Education events and to help with staff mental wellbeing. He is a great asset and we cannot wait to have you meet him!!"

And if you're looking for your daily dose of awe, you came to the right place.

But Chief isn't hanging out at the fire station just to get clout or likes, he actually serves a very important purpose to the fire fighters he works alongside.

While in the early day of fire station dogs, they served a very different purpose. They would help pull the wagon of water to the scene of the fire, before large fire trucks were easily available. They also take up less space and eat less than horses, so they tended to be easier to maintain.

Chief not only helps the fire fighters of Lowell teach fire education to the public by helping make them approachable, especially to younger members of the community.

Chief also helps with keeping the spirits up  at the firehouse. When times get tough, chief is trained to help bring smiles to the faces of all that work with him.
