Lee & Birch Says Goodbye to Wealthy St. After 15 Years
One of the more unique buildings you'll pass while driving on Wealthy St. in Downtown Grand Rapids is the former establishment of Lee & Birch, a small, angular, cream-colored building on the corner of Eastern Ave. and Wealthy St. The business has since moved down the road (its third location), but having so many buildings in one area speaks to the business's longevity in the area.
The Grand Rapids location is one of six locations around West Michigan. However, the owner has announced that the number of Lee & Birch locations will be reduced to four, with the Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo locations closing at the end of the month.
In a Facebook post, owner Nikki Gillette detailed that the two locations have not been seeing the levels of success that the locations in Grand Haven, Rockford, Saugatuck, and St. Joseph have, and that closing the locations will benefit the business's long-term success. Lee & Birch has been open in Grand Rapids for 15 years, and leaving the Wealthy St. community will be difficult.
