It has been a rough week for King Diamond, but he soldiered on Monday night (Nov. 4) after learning that his onetime bassist Timi Hansen had passed away after a battle with cancer.

Earlier in the day, Diamond revealed the news on social media, then paid his respects to his longtime friend onstage for the crowd in Atlanta.

"Most of you might already know that we lost Timi Hansen today — our old, old bass player from Abigail, and, before that, Mercyful Fate. It is super fucking sad that he's gone. He's one of my best friends. He's been my favorite bass player through the entire time I've known him. And we're gonna play this song for him tonight. And every single time that we play this song in the future is for him -- 'Black Horsemen.'" Watch fan-shot footage of the tribute and song performance below.

Hansen revealed his cancer diagnosis earlier this year when it was revealed that he would not be taking part in Mercyful Fate's 2020 tour plans. Joey Vera was announced to fill his spot during the shows, and he encouraged the fans to welcome him during the performances.

"Black Horseman" is the album closer on King Diamond's Abigail album. After following King Diamond from Mercyful Fate, Hansen would exit the singer's solo band after the Abigail album, though he does appear on several compilation and live releases that would follow.
