Kindergarten Class Invited To Court To Watch Classmate Be Adopted
Today, a young boy named Michael was adopted by a loving couple in a Kent County courtroom. Just that alone is heartwarming, but the story gets much better. Michael and his new parents invited his entire kindergarten class to watch the adoption ceremonies.
The class even brought along little hearts on sticks to celebrate the occasion and cheer on the new family. You can see the facebook post below of Michael feeling comfortable as the adoption ceremony was underway. If you look closely in the background you can see his classmates there for support, although some of them can barely see over the banister in the courtroom.
Michael's adoption was one of 37 in Kent County that were conducted on Tuesday, November 26th, the annual Michigan Adoption Day, by Judge Patricia Gardner in the Kent County courtroom.
This time of year is especially hard for children in the foster system in Kent County and these are just a few examples of how people can make a difference in a young child's life.
During the months of November and December there are usually over 90 children who will enter into the foster program in Kent County. If you would like to help foster children in need this year, you can take part in a fantastic charity program (Connie and Fish Christmas Kids) to help these kids have a happier holiday by donating toys, books, school and art supplies, and other basic needs to foster families. If you would like to find out how to donate or even how to become a foster parent, you can find more information here.
