Two bodies have been recovered from a lake southeast of Battle Creek after a day of kayaking gone wrong.

According to WOOD, the couple were kayaking on Beadle Lake in the evening around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday but they didn't come home. Family members were concerned when the two did not return home and immediately began searching for them.

Wednesday morning the search kicked back off at 6:30 a.m. but after an hour, the search team had to contact the Emmett Township Department to come recover the bodies that were located.

One kayak was recovered Wednesday morning by police who used a drone to try and find the other watercraft.

The names of the two kayakers have not been released but investigators say neither of them were wearing life preservers. The man and the woman are said to be in their mid twenties.

Make sure when kayaking to always wear a life preserver and make sure others know where you are taking your boat.
