The first victim of the shooting spree that occurred in Kalamazoo February 20 is making improvements. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department told WZZM-13 on Wednesday that Tiana Carruthers has begun physical therapy.

Carruthers was shot several times outside of the the Meadows Townhomes, it has been reported that she put herself between the shooter and a group of children.

WZZM-13 reports that Carruthers was upgraded to fair condition on Tuesday evening.

Jason Dalton, the accused shooter, was in court Thursday for a probably cause hearing. Dalton's lawyer also requested a mental competency exam for his client.

His next court date is scheduled for May 10.
