Just Over 9 Million More Fish to Catch in Mi Thanks to DNR
Michigan has some of the best freshwater fishing in the entire country. Fishing will be even better because the DNR added over 9 million fish to nearly 700 locations.
Michigan Fishing
Michigan has a pretty good balance of all 4-seasons and there is a huge variety of fish to catch year-round.
Michigan is surrounded by the largest bodies of freshwater in the world and they are filled with salmon, coho salmon, brown trout, steelhead, lake trout, walleye, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike, lake sturgeon, muskellunge, whitefish, largemouth bass, splake, skamania, and more.
One of the reasons the fishing is so good in Michigan is the hard work the Michigan Department of Natural Resources does to maintain the number of fish. In the 1960s the DNR introduced Chinook and Pacific coho salmon into the Great Lakes. It was in the 1970s when the DNR saw the need to stock fish in the Great Lakes as well as rivers, streams, and inland lakes.
