John Oliver Hilariously Explains His 3-Year-Old’s Obsession With Saddest Red Hot Chili Peppers Song
John Oliver recently revealed that his 3-year-old son is obsessed with the saddest Red Hot Chili Peppers song. The child only wants to hear one song and one song only and it's "Under the Bridge."
During an episode of The Tonight Show, John Oliver talked about his two kids, who are 6- and 3-years-old with Jimmy Fallon. He talked about how 3-year-old has recently gotten into the Red Hot Chili Peppers and has become obsessed with their song "Under the Bridge" after hearing it just once.
There's no other song his son wants to hear and is "the only thing he wants to be sung to him at night" according to Oliver. The host of Last Week Tonight says you really haven't heard the song until you've heard a 3-year-old gaze sorrowfully into the distance and sing "'sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner, feel like my only fwend.' With a w."
"And can you imagine a 3-year-old, 'I don't ever want to feel like I did that day.' What the fuck do you know about pain?" Oliver says. "At 3-years-old? I'll tell you about pain. Like you did what day? What day is such a bad memory for you?"
Oliver says "Under the Bridge" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is his son's "Baby Shark." and Jimmy Fallon's response is, "Oh, I love that kid."
Anthony Kiedis wrote "Under the Bridge" while reflecting on his struggles with his heroin and cocaine addiction and the loneliness he felt from distancing himself from his bandmates and girlfriend. "The place" part of the lyric "Take me to the place I love" is his bandmates, friends, and family.
