Most of us know Jeff Daniels as the guy from The Newsroom, Dumb and Dumber, Escanaba in da Moonlight, or his run as Atticus Finch on Broadway. But if you’ve never seen him sitting on a stage with an acoustic guitar, you're missing out!

A Special Night of Music and Storytelling in Grand Rapids

Daniels is heading back to Grand Rapids this winter to play the Royce Auditorium at St. Cecilia Music Center on Tuesday, December 8. If you caught his sold-out show here back in 2025, you already understand the vibe: it’s less of a formal concert and more like hanging out in a living room with a ridiculously talented storyteller who happens to have a guitar in his hands.

That Michigan Connection

What I love about Daniels is how genuinely connected he stays to Michigan. He isn't just dropping in from Hollywood on a tour bus. He really lives that hometown pride! Case in point: he recently opened JD’s Stage Bistro over in Chelsea. He's spent years pouring energy into that town, which also also evidenced by the Purple Rose Theater Company he founded there in 1991.

And it sounds like that grounded, homegrown energy is exactly what he brings to his live shows. Back when he moved to New York in the late '70s to act, he ended up falling in love with the writing process. Instead of picking up a director's chair like most actors, he picked up a guitar and started turning his observations, humor, and life stories into songs.

When he plays, you get a mix of original folk songs, comedy, and candid personal anecdotes. Plus, seeing him in a room as intimate as St. Cecilia is such a cool experience!

St. Cecilia’s Acoustic Café Folk Series Lineup

His show is part of St. Cecilia’s Acoustic Café Folk Series, which brings an awesome mix of acoustic talent to Grand Rapids throughout the season. Other acts coming up on the lineup include the Dan Tyminski Band, Béla Fleck, Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan & Chris Thile, Tommy Emmanuel, and Judy Collins on her farewell tour.
