With school closures due to the first snowfall of the winter season, it is time to do your winter safety checklist.
We have already debunked winter driving myths, however, after driving on the roads these past few days, it seems like I need to remind people of how to stay safe on icy roads.

Driving With Bald Tires Is A No No
As you know, the winter season in Michigan lasts for a long time, especially in West Michigan.
So, there are plenty of things you should do to prepare for the insane conditions.
However, before you start to prepare, you should have decent tires that will handle the winter weather properly.
According to Michigan Legislature - Section 257.710, for your tires to be considered legal for the road, they must meet the following requirements:
- Tread depth:
- Front tires
- must be at least 4/32 of an inch in every major groove
- Other tires
- must be at least 2/32 of an inch
- Front tires
- No fabric should be visible through the tread or sidewall
- Tires cannot have cuts that expose any ply or belt material
- Tire width: maximum width from the outside of one wheel and tire to the outside of the opposite wheel and tire is 102 inches
