Every year, Orkin releases a list of the Top 50 Bed Bug Cities in the country.

"With “National Shop for Travel Day” taking place on January 10, travelers are being reminded to start planning for vacation, including exploring travel accommodations. As Americans begin to book hotels for 2023 and beyond, it is critical for travelers to know how to identify and thoroughly check for bed bugs within hotel rooms (and beyond) while taking care not to bring the pests into their own homes."

With the city of Chicago taking the top spot, you might want to keep that in mind next time you travel there.

However, you may be wondering if there are any Michigan cities that fall on the list. Unfortunately, there are three Michigan cities that are named.

Michigan Cities With Bed Bugs

Are you ready to see what cities are ranked in having bed bugs in Michigan?

Ranked at number 6 is Detroit!

Unfortunately, those of us who live in Grand Rapids are not immune because the city is ranked at number 12 on the list.

Coming in at number 21 is the city of Flint with a two point rise from last year.

To round out the Michigan cities on this list is the capital city of Lansing with the 42nd spot with a 6 point rise from last year.

How To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs

Orkin also shared the recommendations for preventing bed bugs.

• Inspect your home for bed bugs (mattress tags and seams, behind baseboards, headboards, electrical outlets, picture frames, etc.)
• Decrease the amount of clutter
• Check all secondhand furniture

You can also use the S.L.E.E.P. method when you are traveling as well.

Survey the hotel room

Lift and look in bed bugs hiding spaces.

Elevate the luggage away from the bed or wall

Examine your luggage while repacking

Place all clothing in the dryer for at least 30 to 45 minutes at the highest setting.
