UPDATE: Police have identified the shooter as 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford. Authorities say that Sanford drive a truck through the front door of the church Sunday morning, then exited vehicle and began shooting.

UPDATE: As of now, Police are reporting that the shooter is down and there is no further threat to the public at large.

ORIGINAL STORY: It was a beautiful, sunny, cloud-free morning in Grand Blanc until around 10:45 a.m. That's when reports flooded local emergency services about an active shooter at a local church.

Reports of Active Shooter at Grand Blanc Church

Police responded to the call at The Church of Latter Day Saints on McCandlish Road in Grand Blanc, but quickly asked for backup as the church had also caught on fire.

Police and Fire Crews Flood the Scene

While details are sketchy at this point, as it is an active scene, here's what we know so far. The smoke could be seen from miles away and emergency response is in full force, with support from the Flint Fire Department and other area fire-fighting agencies, as well as local police racing to the scene in squad cars and on motorcycles.

Church Fire Breaks Out, Roof Reportedly Collapses

We have no information on the total injuries or fatalities involved, but injuries have certainly been reported. But based on unconfirmed reports the roof of the church collapsed with people still inside.

Status of Shooter Remains Unknown

As of now we don't know if the shooter has been taken into custody, or his current status, but the police presence is very heavy in Grand Blanc and McCandlish is closed between Holly and Saginaw Roads. As you can see from the video below from Leigh Ann Boeger via Facebook, the smoke is filling the sky over Grand Blanc.

We will have more details as they continue to develop. We are praying for the people involved in this horrific situation.

We're also getting word that nurses are staff are trying to help, but have been put into lockdown. Again, we will have a full report when we have confirmed details.
