There is a new documentary that was released on Amazon, which takes a look at one of the greatest mysteries the Great Lakes has ever faced.  From as far back as the 17th century, there is strong documentation that shows just how big fishing has been for people living off the shores of the Great Lakes.

From Wisconsin to Illinois, Michigan, and Canada, fishing is always been a way for people in the nearby Great Lakes area to make a great living. It was heavily industrialized in the mid-1900s when something was changing the landscape of the Great Lakes.

It was something that should not have been there, as Skyhound Media describes the film:
THE FISH THIEF: A Great Lakes Mystery, formerly known as RELENTLESS, is a captivating mystery that engages the audience in a battle for the survival of the largest freshwater ecosystem on Earth, the Great Lakes. This fascinating true story, narrated by Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons, follows remarkable people tackling the mystery of why the most prized fish nearly vanished. The crash destroyed jobs and businesses, and devastated towns, tribal communities, and First Nations across the region.

The biggest mystery is how the invasive sea lamprey made its way over to Lake Michigan, and slowly started to deteriorate the once-thriving population of Lake Trout.

It almost completely wiped out the species and the documentary takes a look at how this could’ve come about. The Sea Lamprey also made its way to very strange places, like being found in the river near Yates Cider Mill in Rochester.
The mystery of the sea lamprey in Michigan waterways is investigated in this film and is a very interesting watch for any Michigander.
