The Detroit Lions have been on a tear through the 2024 NFL season posting their best record since the 1930s. With a few tough teams and divisional rivals in their way between now and the playoffs, the late season run will be one for the ages.

There's an old adage in sports that when a struggling team faces a strong team, the dominant team will 'get their opponents best.' And that's been the case with the Detroit Lions this year.

But by their opponents best, it's not just competitiveness on the field. Rather, there's been a trend of NFL teams debuting flashy new uniform combinations when they host Detroit.

It started with the Houston Texans. That team debuted a kit dubbed Battle Red for a Sunday night contest in Texas. It became a came that became an instant classic in Detroit lore with the team coming back from a 5 turnover debacle and large halftime deficit.

The uniforms feature a black helmet with blue piping and horseshoe with solid blue jersey and pants and white lettering outlined in black.

So who's next to trot out trendy uniforms? The Indianapolis Colts. The AFC South team will be wearing a jersey combination dubbed Indiana Nights for their opportunity to host the Lions. This may be an ominous prelude of doom for Indy - did anyone consider the Indiana Nights uniforms are coming out for a 1PM kickoff?

Fans on social media weren't oblivious to the trend of special uniforms when the Lions come to town.

It's worth noting the Indiana Nights scheme isn't a new combo for Indy, but a special one pulled out for spotlight games. And clearly many teams in the league see a match-up with Detroit as something special.
