Hey Grand Rapids Surprisingly It’s Time to Name A Turkey!
It's a fun time in Michigan as we get to name a turkey!
Sounds a little crazy doesn't it, but it's true. Now is the time to name a turkey to save it's life instead of finding itself served on a platter for Thanksgiving dinner.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced this morning the naming contest.
It is whimsical, yes, but for the third year in a row all of us Michiganders are asked to submit a suggested name for the soon the be pardoned bird, according to Click On Detroit.com.
“Thanksgiving is a time to spend quality time with your loved ones, and the annual turkey pardon is a tradition I always look forward to,” said Whitmer. “I look forward to reviewing all the fun, creative names that Michiganders come up with this year. Submit your name ideas and find out if you picked the winner to be pardoned next week!”
It's interesting how all of this started in the first place, and has deep historical roots, dating back to the early days of European settlers in North America according to Agapepress.com.
Sine the 1940s American Presidents have always pardoned a turkey, but I'm not sure if any of them have ever been named. So why not humanize the old bird anyway by naming it. We know how to do that in Michigan!
How about Sir Gobblebottom, or Drumstick the Comedian, as suggested by Agapepress.com.
My favorite, however is their suggestion of Cluck Norris! Way to go Cluck!
So, what do you think? Can you come up with anything fun and creative?
There were 3900 entries last year for our Michigan bird and the winner was.....Dolly Parton!
