How Can You Get Winter Heating Bill Relief in Michigan?
The cost of everything is going up, up, up! Life seems to be a little bit more of a struggle, and with winter coming we all will be facing home heating bills, which will be higher for sure.
IS THERE HELP TO PAY MY BILL?
Yes there is here in Michigan, but you do have to let people know you need help. It can be a process to apply for help but believe me it will be well worth it.

The website Benefits USA.org is a good site to go to find exactly what to do, what help is available and how you qualify.

The site states that here in Michigan the programs are: State Emergency Relief (SER) energy services through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Home Heating Credit filed with the state Treasury on form MI-1040CR-7, and the Michigan Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) run through local grantee agencies under the Michigan Public Service Commission. Each has its own income test, its own application, and its own deadline.

For example, Benefits USA says if your gas or electric service is past due, shut off, or you are nearly out of deliverable fuel, SER is the one you want, and you apply through MI Bridges at newmibridges.michigan.gov. MDHHS must provide some form of help within 48 hours of a crisis application, and within 18 hours if the situation is life threatening.
We all want each of us and our families to be safe and warm this winter, so the Benefits USA website is a great starting point as it will walk you through each program and qualifications.
Be safe!
