Will Gas Leaf Blowers Become Illegal in Michigan?
What would we do without our leaf blowers? It would be much tougher to do yard clean up spring and fall, that's for sure. The leaf blower helps nearly year round not only with yard cleanup, but clearing the deck and patio as well.
Is it possible that the much used gas powered leaf blower will become a thing of the past and illegal to use in Michigan?
I'm fortunate to have a lawn service do my yard and they use powerful gas powered leaf blowers all the time. I do my own deck and small blower to clean up around the yard but I have an electric blower.
Ann Arbor is hoping their anti-gas leaf blower laws will catch on across the state. Really?

The City of Ann Arbor reported that in December 2023, Ann Arbor City Council enacted a new citywide requirement to phase out the use of gas-powered leaf blowers. So
beginning back in 2024, the use of gas-powered leaf blowers were prohibited in Ann Arbor from Jun. 1 to Sept. 30.
They also issued a seasonal use and phase-out: The use of gas-powered leaf blowers will be permitted from Oct. 1 to May 30 through 2027. Beginning Jan. 1, 2028, the use of gas-powered leaf blowers will be prohibited at all times in Ann Arbor.
It is difficult to imagine that this tough kind of restriction would take hold across the state, but anything is possible. After all, cities in Washington, Oregon, California, and New Jersey in addition to Ann Arbor, have passed laws banning gas leaf blowers.
Part of these laws is based on less air pollution and noise pollution, but I don't think the noise thing holds water. My electric blower makes a big racket.
As homeowners we can do our part, however, to make sure we at least use electric power tools rather gas powered. That should help a little.
