I think I can speak for the entire state of Michigan when I say thank God all of the political mailers, door-to-door knocking, phone calls, and text messages are over.

Regardless of who you voted for and whether they won or not, it's time to take down those political signs.

In a state and country that seems so divided, I believe the first step in healing and moving forward together as the United States of America is to remove all of those ugly political signs from our yards.

I don't care if you voted for U.S. Senate candidates Hillary Scholten or Mike Rogers; it's time to take down those signs.

Now, just because I think you should take down those ugly political yard signs doesn't mean that you have to.

Do You Have to Take Down Political Signs in Michigan?

According to Michigan law, political signs placed on state highways must be removed within 10 days following an election. This applies specifically to signs on roads under the jurisdiction of the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Some areas in Michigan have attempted to enforce the removal of political signs, but it hasn't gone well. The ACLU of Michigan has noted instances where local officials tried to enforce removal ordinances too aggressively, arguing that such actions can infringe on First Amendment rights.

For the most part, it appears that you can keep your political signs up for as long as you want, but please don't.
