Popular Apple Juice Found In Michigan Being Voluntarily Recalled

S. Martinelli & Company has issued a voluntary recall for a specific lot of its one-liter Martinelli's Apple Juice glass bottles due to elevated levels of inorganic arsenic.

The affected lot contained 11.6 parts per billion (ppb) of inorganic arsenic, exceeding the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) guidance action level of 10 ppb.

What Bottles Are Being Recalled

The recall is for one-liter bottles with 'Best By' dates of March 9, 2026, or March 10, 2026, printed on the front label above the main label.

These bottles were shipped between March 13, 2023, and September 27, 2023, with the majority distributed before July 28, 2023.

The affected Martinelli's Apple Juice was distributed in Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Lousiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

It was also distributed abroad in Panama.

Major retailers that carried the recalled product include Kroger, Publix, Target, Ralphs, Vons, Albertsons, and Whole Foods.

Health Risks of Inorganic Arsenic

Exposure to elevated levels of inorganic arsenic can pose health risks, including cancer, diabetes, adverse birth outcomes, and cardiovascular and neurodevelopmental effects, according to the FDA.

As of the recall notice, Martinelli's had not received any reports of illnesses or complaints related to the recalled apple juice.
