As a parent (and John Ball Zoo member), I can’t wait to soak up the last few weeks of fall fun at John Ball Zoo before the 2024 season wraps up. Before they say goodbye for the winter, they have a few more fun things you can get into while the weather is still nice in West Michigan.

One my family’s favorite events is Zoo Goes Boo, which runs on weekends in October. This year is the first year I'll be able to take my son, and we can't wait to dress him up and trick-or-treat throughout the zoo.

Plus- with it running daily from 10a to 5p, it makes it easier for him to enjoy Halloween since trick or treating is after his bedtime! It's not just about trick or treating wither, they have fire performers, magicians, and face painting, too. There’s something magical around every corner.

Even better, we don’t have to worry about candy options because they offer allergy-friendly treats! Plus, as a zoo member, we get exclusive early access before the general public from 9 to 10 am each day, so you can skip the crowds if your little one gets overwhelmed in a group.

For parents needing a night out, the Rock, Roar & Pour on October 24 is the perfect excuse to get dressed up. It’s an adults-only, Halloween-themed night with food, drinks, live music, and a costume contest. Who wouldn’t love enjoying some fall fun while supporting the zoo’s conservation efforts?

With both kid-friendly and adult-only events, John Ball Zoo is the ideal place to celebrate spooky season this year! Whether it’s trick-or-treating with the kids or enjoying a fun night out with friends, there’s no better way to embrace fall right here in Grand Rapids.
