No Knife, No Problem, Check Out These Five Weird Ways To Carve A Pumpkin
Fall is here in Michigan and that means it's time to full embrace scary season.
As you start setting up your Halloween decorations inside your home and outside for everyone to see you can't forget a basic but very important part and that's a carved pumpkin.
Why Do We Carve Pumpkins For Halloween?
The tradition began in Ireland, where people carved faces into turnips or potatoes to ward off evil spirits during Samhain, a festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter.
It was believed that on this night, spirits could roam freely, and these carved vegetables were meant to scare them away.
When Irish immigrants came to the United States, they found that pumpkins were more abundant and easier to carve than turnips. This led to the modern practice of using pumpkins for Halloween decorations.
How To Carve A Pumpkin
When it comes to carving a pumpkin most people grab a pumpkin, cut a whole in the top, scoop out all the guts and then use some kind of a stencil to carve out a spooky design.
While there is nothing wrong with doing it that way I think I might have to try out some of these alternative ways to carve up my pumpkin this year.
