Family Of Michigan Sherriff Killed In The Line Of Duty Has Mortgage Paid Off
Deputy William "Bill" Butler Jr. was fatally shot while responding to a traffic stop on June 27th.
While his family and community struggle to pick up the pieces and continue on, a big burden has been taken care of so they have one less thing to worry about.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a New York-based charity, is stepping up to help the family of a fallen Hillsdale County sheriff's deputy.
Deputy Bill Butler, who lost his life while on duty, left behind a grieving family.
Now, the foundation is making sure his loved ones can stay in their home without worrying about mortgage payments.
Tunnel to Towers is known for its work supporting first responders and their families.
The organization was born from the tragedy of 9/11 and has since made it its mission to help those who risk their lives to protect others.
In this case, the foundation will pay off the entire mortgage on Deputy Butler's family home.
This generous act means his family won't have to struggle with housing costs while dealing with their loss.
The foundation's Fallen First Responder Home Program is designed specifically for situations like this.
It pays off mortgages for families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who die while working, especially those who leave behind young children.
This isn't the first time Tunnel to Towers has helped families of fallen heroes.
Earlier this year, they paid off mortgages for families of officers in North Carolina and Mississippi who died in the line of duty.
