Winter is here in Grand Rapids, which means you may be already feeling the very real effects of Seasonal Affective Depression or SAD. And while some people may tell you to "tough it out" and "suck it up", sometimes it just feels better to cry it out.

So maybe you don't want to go to your room or sit in your car during your lunch break, and instead would love a weep with a view, a user on Reddit asked fellow West Michiganders their favorite places to express themselves in Grand Rapids.

I've compiled a list of the best places in our beautiful city to cry based on these responses as well as my own sad girl experiences. So go ahead, grab that box of tissues, and let's bellow it out.

The Blue Bridge

Sometimes you just need to whistfully look upon the Grand River and shed a tear. If the bridge is too public of a spot for you, try the little tunnels underneath on the path that runs along the river.

The Library at the top of The Grand Castle

It's not only beautiful, but it's apparently usually an empty space. So, treat yourself like Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and let loose after a particularly moving piece of literature (or when you remember how much you pay to live in a manufactured castle.)

Listen, there are a million reasons why you probably made a bad choice to end up here, but now you're stuck until you finally get your order. or, whatever they decide to give you in place of it. Good luck.

Sitting on the stone stairs off Division Street by Belknap Park

Sometimes you don't want to climb all the way up to see one of the best views of the city, and you'd rather just sit at the bottom and hit rock bottom. These stairs feel like the perfect place for your dramatic breakdown.

The Parking Lot of the Closest Meijer Location

Meijer is there for everything we need. It could be Vernor's for your upset stomach or aspirin for your headache, but what about trusting them with that vulnerable moment? Their parking lots are huge, and everyone will just assume you're worried about what you need to pick up before heading home.

If Family Fare or D&W Fresh Market is closer to you, they're also an acceptable substitution.

It's annoying even if it's pretty, so if you wanna pull over to the street parking and let a tear fly, you can always use the excuse of the beauty of the area for driving you to tears. Or hey, maybe you saw a movie that moved you. (Or just go see one that does!)

I love Millennium Park, it's beautiful, wide open, and usually gives you lots of freedom. So take a walk, take in the view of the lake, and cry on the back side of it to give yourself just a little bit of privacy.

And of course all jokes aside, if you are struggling please don't be afraid to reach out to someone. You're not alone, and crying is healthy- but your mental health is important too so take care of yourself.
