Look: Grand Rapids Business Puts The “Sun God” On Ice
Recently The Home Bakery in Rochester, Michigan has gone viral for an impressive edible cake they created of Detroit Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
It got so much attention that St. Brown himself showed up and partnered with the bakery to give out a pair of tickets to Saturdays NFC Divisional game against the Washington Commanders.

Now a local Grand Rapids business is getting involved in the action.
I spoke with Randy Finch owner of Ice Sculpture Events about something really cool that they were asked to be a part of.
Big Joe: Tell me about the Detroit lions sculptures you've been asked to make.
Randy Finch: Ice Guru Events is thrilled to be partnering with the city of Rochester Hills, Michigan, to create a special ice tribute to Coach Dan Campbell, aka "MCDC," as part of their promotion this Friday.
The display will tie in with their giant cake sculpture, and we’re hoping to see Coach Dan snap a photo with it!
Big Joe: How long does it take to make them?
Randy Finch: This particular sculpture took about a week to craft, featuring hand-sculpted Lions and intricate details balanced for durability. For context, smaller pieces usually take 2-3 hours to sculpt, plus a few hours of design work.
Big Joe: How do you transport them, what if they break? Do you have a back up?
Randy Finch: Transporting these delicate creations is an art in itself—we disassemble them into smaller pieces, package each one in a refrigerated container, and carefully drive them to their destination. Sometimes we even deflate the tires slightly for extra cushion! And what if one breaks? Well first we cry ALOT! and then we “glue” it back together with our tears (and a few tools on hand for fixes).
Big Joe: Where are the sculptures going? Where can people see them?
Randy Finch: The Coach Dan display will debut in Rochester, while another set of sculptures, including his portrait, will be showcased in front of the Bedrock building before Saturday’s game.
We’ve also got displays popping up in Grand Rapids, including a cool ice fire tower sculpted during a live performance and Lions artwork at Rosa Parks Circle on the 25th.

Big Joe: Have you done work for the Detroit lions? Have the reached out?
Randy Finch: We’ve had the privilege of working with the Tigers during the playoffs for 20 years and recently the Pistons—but not the Lions just yet. If you’re listening, CALL ME ;) !
