I've been trying to pick a decent used fishing boat to get my son to more locations but I can't seem to react quick enough to buy one before someone beats me to it.

I have a young son that loves to fish as much as I do. I live in an area where there are tons of lakes and rivers with some of the best fishing that Michigan has to offer.

I have a little row boat but don't have a motor so that limits how far we can go and the size of the water we try and tackle.

Plus I don't have a trailer for the old boat and have to lift it in to my truck since my son is only seven, he is unable to help.

So I'm looking to get a boat that has a motor, trolling motor, fish finder etc. that is big enough to get us on the Muskegon River and across places like the Hardy and Croton ponds and to scoot us across lakes a little faster so we can get more fishing time in.

I remember looking on Craigslist last year and boats sold, but not like they are this year. It seems a boat of interest pops up, you have to be there instantly with the cash or it's gone.

I ran into this same problem when buying a house a little over a year ago. I would find a decent house. Go out to do a drive by and it would already be pending.

Just last night two boats popped up online and looked really good. I was going to call on one of the boats and see if I could check it out on the way to work, but it's already sold.

I think because of the pandemic more people are getting out on the open water to social distance and to catch a meal or two and are scooping up the boats ultra fast.

A new boat is out of the question because I can't justify spending $17,000 to $30,000 to catch some bluegill or an occasional steelhead, plus it is a pandemic and for me it's not the best time to be spending that kind of money.

I don't want to spend a lot, just looking for something that will get my son and I through the next 10 to 15 years.

Until then, I will keep looking and loading the old boat that I already own in my truck and hopefully the right opportunity will finally come our way to make an upgrade.
