It Just Got Easier to Find Unclaimed Cash or Property in Michigan

You or a family member could have cash or property just waiting to be claimed in Michigan and it's never been easier to find or receive.

The Michigan Department of Treasury launched a new website on October 1, which makes claiming lost or abandoned property in Michigan easier than ever.

The new website allows you to search by name, zip code or city for property including cash of $50 or more, stock proceeds, or tangible items such as safe deposit box contents.

It's also easier to check on previously-filed claims, it's easier to file new claims and you can now upload documentation online. Previously, documentation had to be submitted by mail.

The new website also gives holders of unclaimed property the ability to file reports and make payments to the state Treasury Department electronically.

Michigan has returned $400 million to rightful owners and heirs over the last four years.
