Dumb & Dumber is one of the funniest movies of all time! I can quote countless quotes from the film, and it's in my usual everyday talk where I drop a, "Big Gulps huh? Alright! Well see ya later!" I

t's funny little quotes like this that make the original Dumb & Dumber so damn special. It's 20 years later and comedy has changed...a lot...let's just say, it's gotten dumber. Hence, why I fear for the long awaited sequel.

Let's start with the first movie. The chemistry that young Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels have with each other in original could be considered 'comedy mastery.' Anything from how they talk to each other, get angry, work together...it all just works so well. These parts were written for them at a time where these two actors young and vibrant. Along with the writing, and which I think makes this movie so special, is the subtlety.

If you don't listen closely to the movie, you will miss what makes this movie so damn special. It didn't have to rely 100% with on screen gags to make you laugh. A good example would be where Harry (Jeff Daniels) says that there are no jobs in the area, then Lloyd replies,

"Yea! Unless you wanna work 40 hours a week!"

SEE! It's quotes like that, that make this movie just hilarious. I still laugh at this movie 20 years later! I could watch this movie time and time again and it will still be as funny as the first time I saw it back in 1994. Dumb & Dumber is just one of those movies that will always have a space on my shelf.

I then saw the trailer to Dumb & Dumber To, and I couldn't help but fear for the future.

Just the amount of on site gags, the old woman at the end, etc. It just doesn't look like what made the original so much fun to watch. It looks like a new age comedy for a new audience. Which I do agree, that makes sense, but people growing up with the original are going to be disappointed. It's like they are trying to update a 'golden comedy' for a new age, and not making something completely original.

Who is going to see this movie? Fans of the old one! I am sure there are many younger fans that love the original, but those younger fans are going to go because their older siblings or even parents these days will take them. Why? Because they remember the hilarious original!

This movie is what we all like to call, a 'Cash In.' It's Hollywood's way of taking something that we find nostalgic, play on our emotions of reminding us of 'The Good Ol' Days,' and selling it. Movies are not the only industry that does this, take a look at toys, video games, television, hell...even FOOD! In a business sense, it's a really smart thing to do. Plenty of people have become successful thanks to nostalgia, take the Angry Video Game Nerd for example. Does this doom the movie from the start? Nope! It could potentially alter your expectations though.

Then there is the other side of things. Maybe the actors wanted to do this! Maybe the writers wanted to do this for the fans! Maybe they had this planned all along! Remember though, money can make people do crazy things. If you were Sean Connery and you were offered $20 Million dollars to reclaim your roll as James Bond in a new film? Chances are, you most likely would.

Who knows! I could be completely wrong about this! It could be one of the funniest damn movies that will hit theaters and I will stick my foot in my mouth. The trailer though shows that I think I am on the right track regarding this movie. I'll go see it when it comes out, and chances are I will like it, but it's hard to attempt to capture what was so great about the original.

All I can say is, let's hope for the best!

Maybe you're wondering why I didn't mention Dumb & Dumberer....cause it doesn't exist....

IT DOESN'T EXIST!!!!!
