A house exploded in Muskegon County leaving a father and son injured.

According to WZZM, a father and his 17-year-old son were in the home Tuesday afternoon when the explosion occurred. The two both suffered injuries and burns to their hands and face. One victim had to be airlifted to a hospital in Grand Rapids while the other went to a burn unit in Muskegon. Both are in critical but stable condition.

The Egleston Township Fire Chief Mark Cleveland said, "they are lucky to be alive."

Cleveland went on to say, "They were both in the basement at the time. workers doing utility work in the area pulled them out from underneath the rubble around the foundation of the home."

Neighbor MaryAnn VanBergen  said she heard the explosion go off around 3:30 p.m. She explained she hadn't heard anything like that before.

According to some relatives that earlier in the day propane had been delivered to the residence.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.
