The lakeshore will continue to get steady west winds Friday, making swimming in Lake Michigan an adventure to say the least.

Although the gusts have backed down from Thursday's 40 mph high, steady winds from the west will be persistent into the Labor Day weekend, making swimming in Lake Michigan riskier than usual.

The National Weather Service says winds will gust up to 20 mph Friday, making for 3-4 foot waves along most of the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Cool temperatures and some rain are in the forecast for the last big weekend of the summer, with  temperature drops into the 60s coming next week.

While Thursday's storm guts peaked at 45 mph in West Michigan, the Lake Superior shoreline in the Upper Peninsula had gusts up to 70 mph in some areas, making for a rough day at the beaches there.
