Even famous bands have to get their start somewhere, and Rage Against the Machine is no different. If this footage isn't of their first concert ever, it's certainly one of their earliest known appearances caught on tape. And it looks very, very 90's.

Although it's not clear where exactly the band is performing, it's obvious that RAtM hasn't quite hit the big leagues yet. There are no barricades to prevent fans from storming the stage, because, hell, only 2 people in the crowd seem to give so much as an obligatory head-nod to the music. It's weird watching a band that's now so famous in an environment where probably everybody in the audience is seeing them live for the first time and doesn't really care.

The video's description claims that this footage is from 1991, approximately a year before their self-titled debut album would rocket Rage Against the Machine into the musical spotlight. One look at the footage, and there's little doubt that this was actually taken in 1991 on one of those handheld VHS camcorders with the little tapes. And although the crowd is pretty lukewarm to the performance, it's amazing to hear the band's signature, unique sound that early in their career.

The real joke is on those people who keep apathetically walking through the audience; they don't know what they're missing out on!
