West Michigan is knee-deep into cold and flu season. Here are some "Pure Michigan" home remedies Michiganders say could turn things around if you feel ill.

I just got over a cold, my parents are getting over a cold and almost everyone I know has either had it or has it,

One of my grandmothers home remedies was a big spoonful of Castor Oil but for my sister and me it was sure fire way to puke our guts out. Maybe purging out what was bad was Grandma Smiths way of getting out the cold demons.

Pure Michigan Home Remedies

A Michigander posted on the MIchigan Reddit page mentioned the made a float with country fresh rainbow sherbet and Vernor's and then asked, "What are your home remedies with all the sickness going around?" Below is what Michigan had to say:

I'm not sure I would want someone chanting and giving me homade potions but depending on how sick I am I may be willing to try anything.

Vernor's is a big part of this pure Michigan Reddit thread on home remedies.

Vernors is picking up steam but now they are adding alcohol.

I think some of these Michiganders posting are lake people. I have noticed many of the folks who live on or near a lake tend to put alcohol in everything.

Boy do I remember Vicks Vapo-Rub. Mom would put that on my chest and run one of those old glass humidifiers. I hated it but Mom was convinced it would do the trick. I didn't die so it must have worked. Throw in the "Price is Right" which made any sick or snow day better in Michigan.

If a Michigan mom were do make that concotion today and give it to their kid there would probably be charges.

Michiganders faith in Vernors is strong. I may buy a six pack the next time I feel a cold coming on.
