Great Lakes water levels are at historic highs with erosion threatening homes and property. Now, some help is coming for shoreline property owners in Michigan.

The battle against shoreline erosion and property damage is both difficult and expensive. Yesterday, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy announced new measures to help protect against rising water levels and erosion:

Faster Permits

  • Permits for shoreline protection, where homes or infrastructure are at risk, will now be issued in a matter of days. It's a process that normally takes 60 - 90 days.

Diverting Resources

  • Resources are being taken from other programs to assist property owners, local governments and others to help process permits and find ways to protect property.

New Website

  • A new Michigan High Water Information website has been launched to share the latest information, begin the permitting process, and help in the search for contractors.
